The lush land of Chile captured the curiosity of Mondavi, who traveled to the region for research in the early 1990s. After meeting Chadwick, the two felt a connection within their shared values and decided to create the first signature wine from Chilepioneer on its terroir in the Aconcagua Valley: on the model of a Bordeaux style, with a Chilean soul. In the quarter century since its inception, Seña has achieved a perfect score of 100 and has solidified itself among the top wines not only South America, but the world. “We are extremely proud to be able to offer the 2009 version of Seña’s library to our collectors,” notes Viñedos Familia owner Chadwick SpA. Eduardo Chadwick. “As part of our 25th anniversary, we wanted to do something special to mark the occasion and further illustrate Seña’s incredible aging ability through this 10-year retrospective and its rightful place among other classy wines. world.”

Seña’s Vertical Tasting Tour, from Asia in 2011 and continues on London, Zürichand five major cities of China in 2012, was designed by Chadwick to showcase Seña’s aging potential. Different vintages of Seña (including its inaugural 1995 vintage) were shown side-by-side with corresponding vintages of the world’s most famous wines. The results ranked Seña among the top five wines from each site on the tour, with the 2009 vintage taking top honors in Zürich. Seña has not only proven its exceptional quality on the world stage, but has also demonstrated its ability to maintain that quality over time as the wines age.

The 2009 vintage was a warm and early season. It began with an early bud burst in very healthy conditions and very uniform flowering in line with historical dates. January was the hottest month of the season. The precise irrigation strategy of the viticultural team managed to take care of the hydration of the vine and to protect the fruit by a good management of the canopy, ensuring a good progress of the veraison. The trend towards warm temperatures continued and favored excellent ripening of the grapes which particularly favored the Carménère variety, achieving perfect phenolic ripening in balance with good levels of sugar accumulation. The harvest started two weeks earlier than the historical dates to deliver a beautiful wine, dense and powerful, with great concentration and richness, fine tannins and juicy acidity.

“Seña 2009 is a very complex wine that shows up beautifully today, after more than ten years of aging,” explained Francois Baettig, technical director of Seña in November 2021 before the release. “The color shows its natural evolution, which still retains its red hue. The nose reveals multiple layers of spicy notes, subtle woodiness, chocolate, tobacco and cigar box, while surprisingly fruity as it opens, with notes of ripe raspberry and cherry.”. The palate is round but shows lively acidity on the finish. This vintage displays excellent density and length with a beautiful structure and perfectly ripe tannins, seductive with a soft and silky mouthfeel. Ready to drink now or keep for another five years.”

Seña is a wine worth celebrating, and collectors around the world will once again have the opportunity to add the 2009 vintage to their portfolio of special bottles and commemorate the 25th anniversary of the world renowned estate. . The 2009 vintage of Seña will be released with a special label and will be available in a special collector’s wooden box at the recommended retail price of $150.
