Plateau: We will work for the safety, the protection of schoolchildren

The Joint Traditional Council Gbong Gwom Jos and President Jos and the President of the State Council of Chiefs and Emirs of the Plateau, Da. Jacob Gyang Buba called on security actors in Berom Land to work with the Plateau State Police Commissioner to provide a police station for BECO Comprehensive High School Kwi to ensure safety and protect schoolchildren and the community.

He noted that Gashis in Barkin-Ladi, Bachit, Kwi and Jol in Riyom; and the community of Vwang, among others in the local government areas of Jos Sud, respectively suffered security problems that claimed the lives of several innocent people.

Da. Buba revealed this on Monday during the commissioning of 5 classrooms renovated by Wunato Besa and 5 classrooms also built by the Berom community in North America at BECO Comprehensive high school, Kwi, in the local government area. of Riyom, in Plateau State.

“There is a need for more people to come together in more groups to emulate what these people have done. We will work with the Police Commissioner to ensure that a police station is located at BECO Comprehensive High School to ensure the safety of our school children and people in the community.

“We are aware of the security challenges in the local government areas of Riyom, Barkin-Ladi and Jos South and I urge all stakeholders to work together to resolve the issues of unity and the security of the population.”

Da. Buba called for more support for the school and said it will soon be transformed into an education college to give Berom children the education they need and want.

Chairman of Riyom Local Government Zone, Hon. Mafeng Gwallson said the council area is working around the clock to ensure adequate security of life and property in Riyom and said the safety of schoolchildren will be the top priority in 2021.

Mafeng praised those who renovated the classrooms and said life would come back to the community if the school became more attractive and functional.

Member representing Barkin-Ladi and the Federal District of Riyom in the House of Representatives, the Hon. Simon Mwadkwon said he had earmarked a budget of N70 million for his constituency project to be carried out in the school, but due to COVID-19 the budget was scaled back.

He said he is currently building a block of six classrooms in the school and pledged to ensure that part of the school is factored into his annual constituency plans until let him leave the National Assembly.

Member representing the federal riding of Jos South / Jos East in the National Assembly, the Hon. Dachung Bagos and Information and Communication Commissioner, Plateau State, Hon. Dan Manjang expressed his gratitude for the healthy development and said they will close ranks with other stakeholders in the country to have a positive impact on the school.
