The Beijing Olympic Winter Games venues have been equipped with all types of high-tech tools to ensure that the global sporting event runs smoothly. Of these, robots built for various purposes are also ready, providing both convenience and an added layer of security amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a video posted Tuesday by the China News Service, a robot grinds the coffee beans and then places the resulting grounds in a percolator to brew a cup of coffee. The whole process only takes four minutes.

The China News Service reported that these robots are common at Wukesong Stadium in Beijing’s Haidian District, which will host trials for ice hockey events from Sunday to Wednesday, involving more than 100 athletes and staff.

Another type of robot helps with stadium logistics. The logistics robot can transport up to 300 kilograms of goods and perform contactless distribution on site.

The intelligent path finder robot can move freely, avoid obstacles and automatically recharge. The most important goal is to reduce direct contact between people, according to the report.

Employees simply put the items they want on the logistics robot and it will transport them to a delivery station where the items will be unloaded. The robot will notify the pickup person via text message of their arrival and customers will be able to collect their goods with a verification code. After delivery, the robot returns to its docking station to disinfect and recharge.

Besides the logistics robot, the stadium has also been equipped with smart contactless distribution cabinets which can solve the problem of delivering items in this last mile. Cabinets have smart storage and pickup, remote monitoring and information functions.

“How can the competitions be held in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic? We are in Haidian district, so here we have developed high-tech products such as disinfection robots and contactless delivery robots, which is one of the highlights of our event during the pandemic, “said to the media Shi Wei, deputy director of the stadium.

This type of delivery robot is also part of the life of ordinary Chinese people. An employee at a hotel in Chengde, north China’s Hebei Province, told the Global Times on Wednesday that her hotel has been using a room service robot to deliver items to guests for some time.

She mentioned that “some customers like to order take out food to their room and the robot can pick it up at the door and send it upstairs by taking the elevator. Customers have been very happy with it.”

Anta, the official sportswear partner of the Beijing Olympic Winter Games, has also incorporated high-tech design elements to ensure athletes don’t get cold.

Anta uses heat retaining materials, such as far infrared graphene and super down feathers with nanoscale protective layers, to combat the cold.

The Organizing Committee for the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games announced in October that the Olympic Village will officially open on January 27, 2022, and all preparations for the games have been completed in terms of pandemic prevention, sites and facilities, transportation. and environmental protection.
